Start here: four reading lists for the English shelf

Pick the list that matches your work this month. Each names a dozen resources from the English shelf and says why they matter.

The English shelf on the Lutheran Leader’s Companion holds about 150 books and courses. Rather than a single guide, it has four short reading lists, one for each kind of work a leader does. Every item they name is free to download from the Resources page.

A new pastor’s kit

Twelve resources that give a newly called pastor or evangelist a working library in one afternoon: doctrine, catechism, sermons, hymns and a Bible handbook.

Teaching the catechism

Everything on the shelf for confirmation and adult instruction, from a picture catechism to the Apostles’ Creed series with colouring pages and PowerPoints.

Sunday school in a box

Lessons, pictures, posters and colouring pages — enough to run a children’s class for a year with nothing but a printer.

Worship and preaching

Hymns without an organ, sermons to learn from, and helps for prayer and daily devotion.

If you lead in another language, switch the language at the top of the page: every other shelf has its own “Start here” guide, built from the books available in that language and grouped by topic.

To download a title: open Resources, type the title in the search box and click Download. Everything is free for study, teaching and ministry under the terms shown with each item.
